How we're funded
- Referral fees. When we introduce you to an independent actuary or consultant and you hire them, we may receive a referral fee. We'll disclose any compensation arrangement before making an introduction. Introductions are free to you, and you're never obligated to hire anyone.
- Sponsorships. Companies can support educational content and series. Sponsors receive clearly identified recognition, not influence over our explanations or conclusions.
- Custom work. We build educational content and interactive tools for organizations under separate agreements. That work is independent of the editorial content published here.
What sponsors and partners can't do
- Require editorial review, approval, changes or removal of content.
- Determine the numbers, examples, analysis or conclusions we publish.
- Insert promotional messaging into explanations, worked examples or educational questions.
- Influence our professional referrals or recommendations.
- Prevent corrections or the publication of unfavorable information.
Sponsors may suggest topics or identify potential factual errors, just like any reader. We independently decide what to cover and whether corrections are warranted.
We can end a sponsorship rather than compromise these standards.
How sponsorship appears
- Sponsored content carries a clear label, such as "Supported by [Sponsor]," with a link to the sponsor's website.
- Sponsor recognition is separate from editorial explanations and worked examples.
- Sponsor credits appear for the agreed term. The educational content remains available afterward.
- We reserve the right to decline or end sponsorships.
Where we draw the line
General educational content may receive sponsorship from organizations operating in the industries we cover. Sponsorship does not imply endorsement of their products or services.
Tools and content that evaluate specific products, pricing, proposals or performance are not eligible for sponsorship from organizations whose interests could be affected by those evaluations.
The Renewal Checker, for example, will not accept sponsorship from insurance carriers, administrators or brokers.
Sponsors cannot influence the findings or recommendations of any Actuarially Sound tool.
Professional introductions
- We introduce people to professionals we believe have relevant expertise for their questions.
- Sponsorship does not buy referrals or preferential placement.
- We disclose referral compensation arrangements and ask professionals to identify relevant conflicts of interest.
- Any advice provided by those professionals is their own. We do not participate in their engagements or receive client information beyond what you authorize.
Your information
- We don't sell individual tool submissions or share them with sponsors.
- When you request an introduction, we'll explain what information will be shared with the professional.
- Our Privacy Policy provides additional details about how information is collected, stored and used.
Accuracy and corrections
Worked examples use illustrative numbers or cited public sources.
We welcome reports of potential errors from readers, sponsors and subject matter experts. We evaluate corrections independently, regardless of who identifies them or who may be affected.
When we correct a material error, we update the content and identify the correction.
